Thank You for my Dosa Guy

We have been in India 5 days now!  My time here has gone by so fast and It warms my heart to know that even though it’s flying by I don’t have to count the days until I leave. The climbing temperatures, busy streets, delicious food and ridiculously kind people have made my transition so sweet.  It blows my mind that I have been blessed to be in this city and can’t imagine being anywhere else…it just feels so right.  Here, in Hyderabad, I am home.

Since getting here last Thursday, we’ve really been taking it easy and just letting our love for this place sink in.  We’ve met lots of new friends, tried lots of great food and yesterday we began our journey to find an apartment…so far, its going really well!  (We are checking out two more places today and then will make a decision soon…Ill be sure to upload photos when we chose a place!)

We have a perfect view of the other Dosa Guy from our Dosa Guy’s place.

While we don’t have much of a routine yet, there is one thing I look forward to every day….and that’s breakfast haha.  Every morning Brant and I walk down the road to get some Dosa from our favorite Dosa Guy (tharunda) and some Chai from various chai stands (we have yet to chose a favorite Chai Guy).

If you’ve never had dosa, boy are you missing out.  its a delicious crispy crepe with vegetables served with spicy sauces.  Our favorite Dosa Guy makes two kinds of sauces, a peanut chutney and a ginger chutney…both are SO GOOD!  Once we have our morning meal, we venture down the street and find someone making chai…we’ve probably hit up close to 6 chai stands by now and will be deciding on a favorite soon…stay tuned!

These daily morning excursions may seem silly but even just having this one thing every morning where we get to see the same people and share in their culture has been huge for me. It’s helping me digest the differences in living here long term and viewing this as life instead of a “trip”.   People on “trips” don’t get to have a “Dosa Guy” or a “Chai Guy”…a week or a month is just too short!  When I was here last year for a month I barely got to try all the various foods, much less revisit the same stand…but there is a mentality shift when a place becomes your home.  Through these morning Dosa runs down the road, I am realizing what an honor and blessing it is to be here indefinitely.  I get to know these people, I get to have conversations with them (more so when I learn telugu haha) and I get to love them for years to come.

Thank you Jesus for allowing me that privilege, thank you for my Dosa Guy.

 Prayer Requests:

-apartment hunting this week

-finding language classes

-please also continue to pray for Sabrina, who is struggling with the adjustment to Indian food…soon she will join us and our Dosa adventures!

This is not Dosa, I forgot to take a picture of my dosa but I did take a picture of this vada which Tharunda also made for us….looks like a donut but DEFINITELY does not taste like it haha
